Jack Phillips maintains he would 'serve everybody that comes in my shop,' but that he wouldn't 'create cakes for every message.'
The baker at the center of a Supreme Court ruling that he cannot be forced to make a cake for a same-sex wedding told Today on Tuesday that he doesnt discriminate against anybody and that he simply doesn't want to bake cakes for every message saying that he would also refuse to create a dessert that insulted the LGBTQ community.
Jack Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cake in Denver, had argued that his cakes are works of art and that requiring him to bake them for same-sex weddings would force him to express a view that violated his religious beliefs. And in a narrow 7-2 decision, the high court said legal proceedings in Colorado had shown a hostility to the baker's religious views.
Phillips, however, maintained during an interview with Today, that he would serve everybody.
It's just that i don't create cakes for every occasion they ask me to create, he said.
I don't discriminate against anybody, I serve everybody that comes in my shop, Phillips said. I don't create cakes for every message that people ask me to create.
This cake is a specific cake, a wedding cake is an inherently religious event and the cake is definitely a specific message, Phillips said, explaining his objection to making the wedding cake for the same-sex wedding.
But Phillips said there were several other messages he would never agree to put on any of his cakes including anything that would disparage a member of the LGBTQ community.

Well after all this publicity I don't think he needs to worry about a gay clientele anymore.
This is about eliminating the last trace of Christianity from this country. The atheist left can’t wait for that day. They are not happy to be what they are. They are obsessed with destroying any institution that says their way of life is unnatural.
It’s war to the end. Don’t doubt me.
ya never know they may come in just to irritate him and push the agenda which is all it is
RE: Well after all this publicity I don’t think he needs to worry about a gay clientele anymore.
Actually, I believe there are REASONABLE gay people ( I have a colleague who are like that ( and she voted for Trump ) ).
When I asked her about her opinion, she told me that she’d take her business elsewhere.
When I asked her if she would buy a cake which simply says : “Happy Birthday Dear Samantha” from him, she said : “Sure, why not? If he’ll make it and the price is right”.
I totally agree. Either we end them, or they end us.
......Justice Kennedy said Colorado cannot force bakers to make cakes celebrating a gay marriage when it allows
other bakers not to make cakes criticizing homosexuality.
States cannot privilege some views over others........Kennedy wrote.
That kind of common sense logic is long overdue.
Newsies are reprobates
I wouldn't put it past some to do that. But I imagine most are not going to go where they aren't wanted. That's human nature.
The Chinese torture and kidnap Christians
What goes on here is NOTHING
IN FACT resistance to the Word spreads it and makes it stronger
I'm of the same mind. If there was a baker who said he'd be glad to sell me donuts but would not make a wedding cake for me because he considered a Roman Catholic mass to be a pagan ritual then I'd look for somewhere else to buy my crullers.
“Well after all this publicity I don’t think he needs to worry about a gay clientele anymore.”
Au contrare! They will continue to try and disrupt his business.
So he would make a cake for gay weddings that didn’t have a message or any other expressed content ?

What needs to happen is that these “State Human Rights Commissions” need to be disbanded. They do not seek to guarantee “human rights,” they have completely Liberal Agendas, and are tools of the Blacks, Gays, or what have you! Basically, they are anti-white “agencies” who commit “reverse discrimination.”
I can't believe any reasonable conservative/Christian person would agree to go on leftist media talk shows. What's the point?
Izzit just a "no publicity is bad publicity" thing? Enquiring minds wanna know! d;^)
I guess I'm making a difference between those who will go there to cause trouble and those who just want a cake. Because of the Court decision he'll probably attract gay troublemakers for a while but I doubt he has to worry about gay customers.
Of course they do
But they never go to Muzzie bakeries, et
Why do you think that us?
A perfectly reasonable, responsible and appropriate attitude. It should be celebrated and supported both socially and legally. No one should be forced to apply their artistic talent or professional skills to a project they do not support or believe in.
Should a skilled plastic surgeon be compelled by law to mutilate a beautiful women because she hates the attention and is willing to pay for it?
Should a talented video photographer be compelled by law to film pornographic movies just because a client is willing to pay the fee?
Should a well respected custom body shop be compelled by law to butcher a multi-million dollar classic Ferrari into a hot wheels style ghetto cruiser just because a client has the money and lack of good taste?
You get the idea. No one should be compelled by law to apply their skills and talent to a purpose against their will.
If one wants to buy the off-the-shelf products or openly offered services, fine. But one must not be compelled to actively participate and apply unique personal talent or skills against their will.
Baking a wedding cake for homosexuals is a message of support. Baking a birthday cake for a homosexual just commemorates a fact, not a belief.
The decision was not a narrow one. I don't care how Roberts is compelled to describe it. It's implications should be crystal clear, and there should be no reason to believe this issue isn't settled.
